Many UK households qualify for fully funded insulation upgrades

Who Funds The ECO4 Grant Scheme?

The ECO4 scheme is primarily funded by major energy companies in the UK. These companies are required to allocate a proportion of their profits to fund the scheme, which provides financial assistance for energy efficiency improvements in low-income and vulnerable households. This obligation ensures that energy companies contribute to reducing carbon emissions and energy consumption across the country. The funding supports a variety of measures, including insulation, heating system upgrades, and renewable energy installations, helping to make homes more energy-efficient and reducing energy bills for those in need.

The ECO4 program was introduced by the UK Government in April 2022 and will continue through to March 2026, offering£1 billion in annual grants that do not require repayment. That means NO COST TO YOU. This initiative is a valuable opportunity for many households.

ECO4 provides home energy improvements to cut energy costs, playing a crucial role in helping the UK meet its 2050 net-zero carbon goals, as well as lifting low-income households out of fuel poverty. As a result, numerous homes may receive free insulation along with other energy-saving measures.

Therefore, seize this opportunity to save on monthly energy bills, and enjoy a warmer, more efficient home. With Fairway Energy, you can trust in the quality and security of your home improvements.

    Free Insulation Grant Scheme

Free insulation grants for your home are available through a UK government scheme, aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions. These grants are often provided to homeowners and tenants to help cover the cost of installing insulation measures such as loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, and solid wall insulation.

The availability of grants and the eligibility criteria can vary depending on factors such as location, household income, and the type of property. Typically, these grants are part of broader energy efficiency programs like the Energy Company Obligation (ECO).

By offering financial assistance for insulation upgrades, these grants aim to make homes more energy-efficient, reduce energy bills for occupants, and contribute to the UK’s efforts to combat climate change. To find out whether you are eligible, simply complete our online form and one of our representatives will be in touch shortly.

    Loft Insulation

Loft insulation is typically installed in the space between the roof and the ceiling of the top floor of a building. It helps to prevent heat from escaping through the roof, keeping the space below warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Loft insulation is often made from materials like fiberglass, cellulose, or mineral wool and is available in rolls or batts.

Internal wall insulation involves adding insulation to the interior surface of external walls within a building. This can help improve the thermal efficiency of a property by reducing heat loss through the walls. Internal wall insulation is commonly achieved using materials like rigid foam boards or insulated plasterboard, which are fixed to the existing wall surface.

Cavity wall insulation is installed in the gap (cavity) between the inner and outer walls of a building. It helps to reduce heat loss through the walls by filling this gap with insulating material. Typically, cavity wall insulation is made from materials such as mineral wool, foam boards, or polystyrene beads. It can significantly improve the energy efficiency of a building and reduce heating costs.

Room in roof insulation, also known as attic or roof space insulation, involves insulating the space directly under the roof of a building that is used as a living area or storage space. This type of insulation helps to keep the space below more comfortable by reducing heat loss through the roof. It can be installed using various insulation materials, such as fiberglass, cellulose, or foam boards, depending on the specific requirements of the roof structure and building design.

Floor insulation in the home can be a vital component for enhancing energy efficiency and comfort. By insulating your floors, you can significantly reduce heat loss, which helps maintain a consistent indoor temperature and lower energy bills. It acts as a barrier against cold drafts and dampness, particularly in properties with uninsulated floors over crawl spaces or basements. Proper floor insulation not only improves thermal performance but also contributes to a quieter living environment by reducing noise from below. Ultimately, floor insulation is an effective way to ensure a warmer, more energy-efficient, and comfortable home year-round.

    Got A Question About Insulation?

What is insulation, and why is it important?

Insulation is a fabric measure which is used to seal the building and retain the heat within your property.

We provide multiple insulation measures, depending on each property’s eligibility via the government grant schemes.

Loft Insulation: This is usually wool loft insulation roll, which is rolled out in-between joists in the property’s loft, and cross-laid to provide full coverage and government-set required depths.

Internal Wall Insulation (IWI): This is foam-backed battens that are fixed to the walls at set intervals. We then friction-fit the IWI between each batten to ensure full coverage of the wall. We then install a Vapour Control Layer (VCL) which allows the wall to release moisture. Finally, we then cover with plaster boards and seal the edges with an airtight sealant, before plastering.

Cavity Wall Insulation (CWI): This is installed via a series of drill holes, which fills the cavity between each wall with expanding polystyrene beads. The wall is then sealed with mortar to prevent the beads escaping. Once completed, this retains the heat. It’s important to note that this method is subject to survey and pre-approval from the IAA.

Underfloor insulation is also available but very minimal in the government schemes currently available.

Yes. Both GBIS and ECO4 cover insulation measures. Simply apply today to see if you are eligible for a free insulation grant. If eligible, then you will receive these improvements to your home completely free of charge and depending on the scheme, sometimes in conjunction with other heating measures.

This will be discussed as part of your property’s retrofit survey. Also, an existing EPC may recommend installation or a top-up of the current insulation measures.

Insulation can last up to 80 years, where advised, but the warranty is usually 25 years from the manufacturers.

By retaining the heat and keeping the rooms to a certain temperature, insulation can help prevent moisture issues. However, this is also supplemented in the scheme with ventilation measures such as extractor fans and trickle vents. The fresh air coming into the property and the removal of polluted air helps prevent moisture issues.

Installing insulation measures reduces carbon emissions and energy bills as they reduce heat loss and maintain indoor temperatures. This reduces your reliance on heating systems, therefore reducing usage and the bills associated.

Loft insulation usually takes half a day to install.
Internal Wall Insulation (IWI) takes between 3-5 days to install.
Cavity Wall Insulation (CWI) usually takes half a day to install.
